The Publishing House and its History

Dorling Kindersley Verlag GmbH (DK) is a subsidiary of Dorling Kindersley Ltd., one of the leading illustrated reference publishers worldwide and part of Penguin Random House, formed on July 1st, 2013. DK produces highly visual, photographic non-fiction for adults and children in 62 languages and over 85 countries. The German branch has been publishing books since since 2000.

DK’s aim is to inform, enrich and entertain readers of all ages and everything DK publishes, whether print or digital, embodies the unique DK design approach. DK brings unrivalled clarity to a wide range of topics with a unique combination of words and pictures, put together to spectacular effect.

Program

DK’s extensive children’s list of over 500 books showcases a fantastic store of knowledge for children, toddlers and babies.

DK’s tactile board books introduce the youngest of readers to books and help them discover the world around them. The books for beginning readers are known for their highly pictorial reading scheme, with lively illustrations and engaging stories to encourage reading. ›SUPERLESER!‹, a series for beginning readers, was developed in consultation with leading literary experts and is recommended by elementary school teachers. First reference books answer intriguing questions and help children easily learn new facts. Encyclopedias such as »Wissen für clevere Kids« are popular among readers age 8 and above.

The reference book series ›memo Wissen entdecken‹ currently spans over 90 fascinating topics, with new issues following semi-annually. Aimed at readers age 8 and above, ›memo Wissen entdecken‹ provides accurate and concise information about key school subjects. ›memo Kids‹, a reference book series for children age 6 and above, helps kids to become confident readers with its highly pictorial reading scheme.

DK’s children’s books stand out for their innovative design and fascinate young readers of all ages with spectacular pictures, 3D-illustrations, pop-ups, sound effects and interactive elements.

DK is proud to feature an impressive list of licensing titles which include the best-selling LEGO® and Star Wars™ books. . The book series ›Superleser‹ introduces young readers into the LEGO® and Star Wars™ worlds.
