The Publishing Company and its History
For generations, books and Advent calendars from Kaufmann Verlag have accompanied children as they grow up, offering them guidance, creative inspiration, and exciting entertainment. Around 80 new titles are published each year, with more than 700 titles currently available.
The publishing house was founded in 1816 by Ernst Kaufmann as a lending library and lithographic printing press. In the early decades, its publications consisted mainly of Protestant Christian texts. Later, educational and pedagogical subjects became more prominent, and books and materials for children were added.
In the 1960s, the first ‚Kaufmann Advent Calendars‘ were published, featuring 24 stories, high-quality illustrations, and creative ideas and add-ons for activities.
Step by step, these early editions evolved into today’s publishing program, which includes children’s books for preschool and primary school ages, a strong focus on ‚Advent and Christmas‘ and a educational program for kindergarten and daycare centers.

Program
Under the motto ‚We love stories‘ Kaufmann Verlag invites children to immerse themselves in colorful worlds full of adventures and tales. The stories are designed to encourage discovery, participation, and shared experiences, and to accompany children through the small and big moments of their everyday lives.
The Advent calendars are a special highlight: they tell exciting, lovingly illustrated stories, inspire crafting and playing, and often include extras such as posters, stickers, stand-up figures, or magnets. From large wall Advent calendars with 24 small books to take out, to book-format Advent calendars and quiz and puzzle calendars, there is something for every young explorer.
Picture books and read-aloud books also captivate with imaginative stories and illustrations that reflect children’s everyday lives. Religious children's books, including award-winning children's Bibles, as well as Advent and Easter calendars, are also an integral part of the program.
For kindergarten and preschool children, there is a wide range of activity, learning, and puzzle publications, sticker books, as well as friendship and gift albums that playfully promote creativity and support discovery and learning.
The program is complemented by practical materials - including books, cards, and planners - for educators in kindergarten and daycare, designed to make everyday teaching easier and provide inspiration for childcare.
