The Publishing House and its History

Established in 1991, the publishing house initially focussed on children’s books. The founders were Gerd Herterich, who has been the publisher and managing director until 2017, as well as Jürgen Pankarz, who was given the nickname of Moses (the name traditionally given to the youngest crew member of a ship); it is interesting to note that he not only gave the publishing house its name but also illustrated the first book to be published by the young company.
In 2013 Nina Tebartz joined the management and today she manages the family business together with Björn Wandtke - still based in Kempen. Having started out as a two-man-publishing house, the company today boasts about 100 employees and has extended its portfolio far beyond children’s books to include delightful games and toys for children. Moreover, the portfolio for adults is equally as strong, and includes high-quality gift ideas and exquisitely designed communication games.

Thinking out of the box, discovering new ideas and bringing them to life – this is the philosophy that our publishing house abides by. moses. one more idea!

Program

From the outset, moses. not only focused on books in its portfolio, but also complemented these with suitable extra items - what is the point in having a book about games that you can play with marbles when you don’t have any marbles to play with? It is this combination of books and toys that has remained the hallmark of the constantly expanding portfolio for children: original reference books and activity books that cover a whole world of fun and games, where experimentation and learning are all bound up together in our comprehensive portfolio - ranging from magnifying beakers to colourful stamp sets.

Nature and Experiments

One focus of the portfolio is nature and experiments. Getting toddlers involved in their very first adventures with nature is what the ›Krabbelkäfer‹ products have to offer; the range of books titled ›Expedition Natur‹ provides ideas for exciting journeys of discovery in the great outdoors; moreover, in collaboration with the German GEOlino magazine, moses. has created a collection of beautiful educational titles about nature for children from 8 years. Of course, moses. also provides all the equipment you might need for an adventure, including magnifying glasses up to underwater torches. In 2020 moses. also launched the product line ›PhänoMINT‹ with a range of books and educating toys concerning the subjects mathematics, IT, natural sciences and engineering – playful education for young students.

Fun and Games

Creative modelling clay sets, extraordinary colouring books, and a wide range of classic games and original card games such as »Fische versenken« or »Ohne Haufen, dumm gelaufen« will guarantee that boredom will become a thing of the past in the kid’s playroom. Our so-called ›50 cards sets‹ are not only small and compact, but are also full of tips: if you are a budding young gardener or magician, or if you like games, crafts or experiments - you’ll find a treasure trove of ideas for all occasions.

Our cult series ›black stories‹ offers a veritable goldmine of mystifying enigmas to solve and will guarantee goose bumps for both young and old, and it is available as a card and board game. This cult series is also available for youngsters, known as ›black stories Junior‹. You’ll be sent on a funny and colourful treasure hunt, either on holiday or in the depths of space.
